![]() ![]() August 2009 | ![]() Canadian Communications Monitoring Report 2009 Countries covered: Canada According to CRTC's Communications Monitoring Report 2009, there were 707 television services in Canada generating approximately $5.5 billion in 2008. CBC/SRC conventional television, representing 8% of television revenues, had the highest revenue growth in 2008, increasing 16% to $412 million. Pay, PPV, VOD, and specialty services revenues increased 8% to $2.9 billion in 2008 and represented 54% of total television revenues. A growing number of Canadians both Anglophone and Francophone use the Internet to watch videos (42% and 37% in 2008). More Canadians are watching television programming online. The percentage of Canadians watching television programming in a typical week, including clips from television programs, increased 29% for Anglophones and 23% for Francophones. Overall TV viewing in Canada decreased 12 minutes for all persons, aged 2+ for the average weekly viewing hours. This decrease was most notable for ages 12-17 where the weekly hours decreased 66 minutes from 18.5 hours in 2007 to 17.4 hours in 2008.
