January 2010 | ACMA ACMA Communications Report 2008/2009 The ACMA Communications Report 2008—09 provides a comprehensive overview of developments in the Australian telecommunications industry for 2008/2009 and also covers many aspects of the broadcasting and radiocommunications industries, including TV, radio and online usage data and revenues by sector. According to the ACMA report, media advertising expenditure in Australia increased by 3.7% to $13.7 billion in 2008. In the same period, online advertising grew by 27 per cent to total $1.7 billion and made up 13% (2007: 10%) of the over all advertising expenditure. The ACMA estimates the Australain free-to-air broadcasters to generate a total revenue of $7,57 billion and 16,859 employees. The FTA television are stated to have generated revenues of approximately $6.27 billion in 2008/2009, decline of just over 2% compared to 6,41 billion in 2007/2008.
